‘At the Borders of Law’ is the theme of the three workshops organised by the Dream research area of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa within the days linked to the ‘Protect People Not Borders’ project promoted and organised by the 3 October Committee in Lampedusa.
At its tenth edition, coinciding with the Day of Remembrance and Welcoming, officially established in 2016, following the tragic shipwreck in which 368 people lost their lives off the island of Lampedusa on 3 October 2013, the initiative aims to keep alive the memory of the people who lost their lives in the Mediterranean Sea and to increase knowledge of complex phenomena, such as migration. This year, the theme ‘border ’ formed the common thread of every meeting, performance and workshop with students from Italian and European educational institutions.

The contribution of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna

The Dream Research Area of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna conducted three workshops entitled ‘At the boundaries of law’. The workshops conceived by Francesca Biondi Dal Monte, associate professor of Constitutional Law at Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, and by Simone Frega, research fellow in Institutions of Public Law at Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, saw the attentive and active participation of students present in Lampedusa and coming from different Italian cities.

"Seeing the attention of so many young people on such complex and, at times, divisive issues - commented Simone Frega - has further enriched the initiative". The workshops conducted by the Scuola Sant'Anna "allowed the students to think about the borders in society and the rights guaranteed in border lands. Similarly, the proposed shows, including a musical organised by the students of the Liceo Marconi in Pesaro, promoted complex themes through the care and professionalism of young male and female students and their teachers".
